We have ours in an Omnirax console but we think you get the idea.

With 10 channels of Class A pre-amps the mic pre-amps on this board are rarely used.  The console is mostly for headphone mix and playback during tracking as we route microphones through any of a selection of our mic pre-amp/compressors.

The Mackie 32 channel 8 bus provides us with a lot of flexibility in playback / tracking mix options.

We use this board for Play back mixes when tracking on our Ampex MM1000.  We can then mix in analog or take it over to digital through the Apogee converters.  Both these boards have some very respectable mic pre-amps on board.
